Introducing one of Capture Higher Ed’s newest partners, the University of North Texas.
Located in Denton, Texas — 36 miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth — UNT is one of the nation’s largest public research universities and the largest in the North Texas region, serving more than 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students through 105 bachelor’s, 88 master’s and 37 doctoral degree programs.
An Independent Spirit
From humble origins in a rented space above a hardware store in downtown Denton, UNT was established in 1890 as the Texas Normal College and Teacher Training Institute.
“It will be our aim to become leaders in education of the young men and women of Texas, fitting them to creditably fill the most important positions in business and professional circles,” said the college’s founder, Joshua C. Chilton, at the time. “We desire the cooperation of all who believe in higher education and who want to see our state in the very front of intellectual as well as material progress.”
For more than 125 years, UNT has sought to fulfill that mission by developing leaders and visionaries. From admitting women on its opening day to pioneering water quality research for the region, establishing the nation’s first jazz studies program and becoming one of the first universities in Texas to desegregate, UNT always takes the road less traveled on its path to excellence.
Today, the university is an intellectual and economic engine for Denton, the greater North Texas region and the state, fueling progress and entrepreneurship. As the institution has grown so has its reach and impact. UNT’s programs are nationally and internationally recognized. Its research and scholarship span the arts, science, engineering and everything in between.
UNT has an active and fun campus culture with countless clubs and organizations, excellent recreational facilities, intramurals and more. One of the best parts of the UNT experience is living on campus in one of our 15 residence halls. Each hall has its own personality and traditions, and many offer “Living-Learning Communities” that bring students together with others who share their major or interest.
The university also has 12 men’s and women’s NCAA-Division I sports teams. The “Mean Green” compete in Conference USA.
Mission and Vision
UNT’s mission and vision is to be a caring community that “prepares students for careers in a rapidly changing world.”
As a comprehensive public research university providing a top-quality education in one of the nation’s largest, most dynamic regions, the university strives to be celebrated for its academics, arts and athletics. A diverse and inclusive institution creating knowledge and innovations that will shape the future, UNT cultivates excellence in the next generation of scholars and leaders for the global community.
We are proud to welcome the University of North Texas to the Capture family of partners.
