Capture Higher Ed is proud to introduce one of its newest partners, Pace University in New York City.
Founded in 1906, Pace is a private institution with campuses in Lower Manhattan and Westchester County, NY. It enrolls more than 13,000 students in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs throughout six schools: the College of Health Professions, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, Elisabeth Haub School of Law, Lubin School of Business, School of Education, and Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems.
The university traces its beginnings back to the fall of 1906 when Homer Pace, an accountant from the Midwest, and his attorney brother, Charles Pace, began offering preparation for the C.P.A. exam. The Pace Institute offered a rigorous education designed to prepare students for successful corporate and professional careers — the kind of schooling Homer Pace found lacking in New York City at the turn of the 20th century.
Excellent Teaching, Ambitious Graduates
After World War II, Pace Institute began its transformation into a modern university with an emphasis on the liberal arts and sciences. In 1947, it became Pace College, a non-profit, non-stock corporation. By 1973, it attained university status.
Over the years, it grew from rented facilities and few resources into one of the largest universities in New York State, with a multimillion-dollar physical plant, an endowment of more than $100 million and a reputation for excellent teaching and talented, ambitious graduates. A 2017 study by the Equality of Opportunity Project ranks Pace University first in the nation among four-year private institutions for upward economic mobility. The study was based on students who enter college at the bottom fifth of the income distribution and end up in the top fifth.
At the heart of Pace’s academic values is a historic commitment to excellence in teaching, an emphasis on skill development and critical thinking, special tutoring and support services, and academic advising. Academic experiences at Pace emphasize teaching from both a practical and theoretical perspective, drawing on the expertise of full-time and adjunct faculty members who balance academic preparation with professional experience to bring a unique dynamic to the classroom.
Pace University in the 21st century is shaped by its enduring traditions of opportunity and innovation. More than 100 years after its founding, the University continues its commitment to providing access to a diverse population while innovating to meet the needs of the global economy.
We are proud to welcome Pace University to the Capture family of partners.
