Introducing one of Capture Higher Ed’s newest partners, Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Indiana’s premier urban public research university, IUPUI has an enrollment of 29,790 students consisting of 21,610 undergraduates and 8,180 graduate and professional students. The university offers more than 350 academic programs from Indiana University and Purdue, all on an urban campus in the heart of Indianapolis, the nation’s 14th-largest city and Indiana’s state capital.
IUPUI traces its roots back to 1891, when Indiana University offered classes in Indianapolis for the first time. In the decades that followed, both IU and Purdue provided higher education opportunities in the city with programs in the liberal arts, medicine and more.
The two universities operated independently in the area until 1968 when Mayor Richard Lugar called for “a great state university in Indianapolis.” As a result, IU and Purdue merged their local programs and schools to create IUPUI in 1969.
Since that time, the partnership has blossomed into a world-class urban research and academic health sciences campus. IUPUI is home to the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, the first school of its kind in the world. The university is ranked in the Top 200 on U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” list, with its nursing programs ranked in the Top 30. The magazine Insight Into Diversity has made IUPUI a “Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award Winner” six times.
Called the “Jag Life,” IUPUI’s campus culture includes more than 500 student organizations, excellent international service learning opportunities, recreational activities and an array of other opportunities to connect, gain experience and have fun. The school has 18 men’s and women’s NCAA Division I sports programs. The Jaguars compete in the Horizon League.
IUPUI’s mission is “to advance the state of Indiana and the intellectual growth of its citizens to the highest levels nationally and internationally through research and creative activity, teaching and learning, and civic engagement.
“By offering a distinctive range of bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and Ph.D. degrees, IUPUI promotes the educational, cultural, and economic development of central Indiana and beyond through innovative collaborations, external partnerships, and a strong commitment to diversity.”
We are proud to welcome Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis to the Capture family of partners.
