Introducing one of Capture Higher Ed’s newest partners — the University of South Carolina. Located in the state capital of Columbia, USC is the Palmetto State’s flagship university and one of the country’s oldest and most comprehensive universities.
The institution was founded in 1801 as South Carolina College, growing around the historic quadrangle in the middle of campus called the Horseshoe. The college flourished in the decades before the Civil War, overcame serious postwar struggles in the latter half of the 19th century, before being re-chartered as a university in 1906.
Enrolling 21,000 undergraduates and approximately 8,000 students in graduate and professional programs, USC is now a premier, national research institution — one of only 32 public universities to earn the Carnegie Foundation’s top-tier designations in research activity and community engagement. The university has 15 colleges and schools, offering 324 unique degree options through traditional and online academic programs in the sciences, art, business, education, journalism and several other fields.
The university’s Undergraduate International Business and International MBA programs are ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report. And USC’s Ph.D. Program in Exercise Sciences is ranked No. 1 in the country by the National Academy of Kinesiology.
With 19 men and women’s athletic teams, USC competes in the always tough Southeastern Conference. The Gamecocks are coming off a historic season on the hardwood, with the women’s basketball team winning the 2017 NCAA National Championship and the men competing in the school’s first Final Four. And these athletes know how to hit the books. USC is first in the conference with 381 student-athletes on SEC Academic Honor Rolls.
At the heart of USC’s mission is a “responsibility to promote the dissemination of knowledge, cultural enrichment, and an enhanced quality of life.” The university strives to “lead the way in providing all students with the highest-quality education, including the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for success and responsible citizenship in a complex and changing world through engagement in nationally and internationally ranked research, scholarship, community outreach, and artistic creation.”
We are proud to welcome the University of South Carolina Gamecocks to the Capture family.
