Introducing one of Capture Higher Ed’s newest partners — the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Established in 1851 and located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, it is Minnesota’s land-grant university and one of the most prestigious public research universities in the nation.
Claiming such notable alumni as Bob Dylan, Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale, Minnesota enrolls 31,000 undergraduates and more than 16,000 students in graduate and professional programs. Its faculty, alumni and researchers have accumulated 25 Nobel Prizes and three Pulitzer Prizes.
With graduation rates that have more than doubled since 1997, the university is one of only five institutions of higher education in the country with an engineering school, a medical school, a law school, a veterinary medical school and an agricultural school all on one campus. It prepares more than 80 percent of the state’s new physicians and pretty much all of the state’s pharmacists, dentists and veterinarians.
Minnesota is No. 8 in research among all U.S. public universities, with more than $900 million in spending. The university is largely responsible for launching the state’s medical device industry and helped invent the pacemaker.
Minnesota’s campus offers a lively, dynamic culture with 23 varsity athletic teams that compete in the Big 10 Conference. It is home to more than 900 student organizations and has a strong international presence with almost 6,500 international students representing 130 countries.
The university’s 3,800 faculty include members of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and several other prestigious bodies. Current and former faculty members have won Guggenheim Fellowships, MacArthur Fellowships (“genius grants”), Nobel Prizes and other significant honors.
Minnesota breaks its Mission Statement into three sections:
Research: “We seek new knowledge that can change how we all work and live. At the University of Minnesota, students do research alongside top professors in all majors.”
Education: “We prepare students to meet the great challenges facing our state, our nation, and our world. As a U of M student you’ll engage with your professors and fellow students from the very beginning. And you’ll develop your strengths with beyond-the-classroom experiences.”
Outreach: “We apply our expertise to meet the needs of Minnesota, our nation, and the world. We partner with communities across Minnesota to engage our students, faculty, and staff in addressing society’s most pressing issues.”
Capture is proud to welcome the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers to our family of partners.
