Introducing Lyon College, one of Capture Higher Ed’s newest partners.
Founded in 1872, Lyon is a selective, independent, undergraduate, residential teaching and learning college located in Batesville, Ark. — in the foothills of the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), students at the college pursue degrees in 15 disciplines as well as pre-professional programs leading to careers in education, law, medicine, physical therapy and more.
One of the oldest colleges in Arkansas, Lyon is frequently recognized as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation, ranking as a nationwide top college by Forbes and a “Best Southeastern College” by the Princeton Review. The college was named a “Best Bang for the Buck” college and “Most Socially Beneficial College in Arkansas” by Washington Monthly, which also recognized Lyon for recruiting and graduating the highest percentage of low-income students of any college in the state.
Lyon has a highly acclaimed faculty, with 13 of its professors winning the coveted U.S. Professor of the Year award for Arkansas, which has been given annually by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) since 1981. Dr. Robert G. Gregerson, a former biology professor at Lyon, won it twice — in 2000 and 2003. The college’s 14 Professor of the Year awards is the most of any liberal arts college in the nation.
With 14 men and women’s NAIA sports teams, Lyon has a strong athletic tradition, competing as the Scots in the American Midwest Conference (AMC) and the Central States Football League (CSFL).
But the active culture on campus goes way beyond sports. Near the beautiful White River, Lyon is located in an area that offers amazing hiking, biking, paddling, camping, caving, rock climbing, fishing and hunting. To help students take advantage of the location, the college developed the Lyon Education and Adventure Program (LEAP), which provides information and access to the many activities available in the Ozark Mountains.
According to its mission, Lyon College “offers a challenging curriculum centered on the liberal arts, guided by an Honor System and coordinated with co-curricular programs, all fostering the critical, creative thought and ethical, spiritual growth that will prepare students for fulfilling personal and professional lives committed to lifelong learning and service.”
We are proud to welcome Lyon College to the Capture family of partners!
